Moira: Week 7!

Right now Moira's lying peacefully in her crib, stretching, almost fully awake. She'll twist and turn and make her adorable baby sounds and doze again only to repeat this a few minutes later. I love that I can see her from my bed but it's taking everything I have to not go grab my adorable little girl. We've been told we need to teach her to lie in her crib until it's the time we deem as awake time and teach her that Mama and Daddy aren't going to come running with every little noise. She needs to learn how to play quietly before she falls asleep and when she wakes up. And sleep training has officially begun.
Mangos are tasty!
Helping me make some pumpkin and pecan waffles this past weekend!
Having way too much fun with pumpkin. Making pumpkin ricotta gnocchi.
More on that later though. Week 7 was packed full of activities starting with Aunt T visiting and filling up our social and activity calendar. We had a whirlwind weekend with my sister though. Chatted about everything we could think about, she couldn't believe how big Moira had gotten, we kept up the ramen tradition by going to the best place in the city (sans baby AND we were the first in line!), we made pumpkin ricotta gnocchi that night, then the 3 girls grabbed brunch at a trendy spot on Sunday while Bill went to the Jets game and then she off, back to DC. We'll be down to visit her in a few weeks though, marking Moira's first train ride, and first time outside of NYC.
Nothing like an Auntie to comfort you
And cry with you
And figure out that you and Mama have the same frown (of all things)
And take you out to NYC hot spots
Aunties are the best!
Last Tuesday was also our first Mommy and Baby yoga class! It was an easy bus/subway ride away and the class was fun, full of babies all the way to 1 year. There was about 45 minutes of Mommy yoga time, then some baby yoga, including minor stretching, songs and movement. Moira was the youngest but was interested in everything, even smiling and giggling at the lady right next to me. The instructor explained at the beginning that anything goes, so I felt completely comfortable breastfeeding (and was the only one that bothered to use a cover), changing Moira and no one blinked when she got a little fussy. I also loved doing the songs and movement with her, something that'll just get more fun as she gets older. And they have a Saturday morning class too! It's early (8:45) but to get a workout AND hang with this little lady (and also let Bill sleep in a little longer than usual) could be totally doable. They also have a Mommy Baby pilates class I'm interested in checking out.
Moira could get a few pointers from Jasper on smiling

After we went over to Melissa's to have a baby Mommy playdate. Moira and Jasper kind of hung out. He hopefully gave her a few pointers on smiling and we chatted about mommy things. It's so great to have friends with kids that aren't so far away and will be even more fun once we're even more mobile.
We love this ever-changing little one so much!
And we've started sleep training. We're using the Twelve Hours Sleep By Twelve Weeks Old method by Suzy Giordano and while we shouldn't seriously start training until Moira's 8 weeks, we're trying to get her to eat all 24 oz of milk (the daily intake at her age) during the day time, map out when she eats, how much/how long, when she naps and what the sleeping is like. It's been a tough week of primarily pumping to see exactly what she's getting but already we're seeing some good results. I'll have some updates for next week once we get super serious about this. It's a low cry method which I vastly prefer to cry it out, though it takes longer, but it teaches good sleeping habits, like I mentioned above. Putting herself to sleep, having a routine having set naps and eventually (soon?) sleeping through the night completely.
On Friday we had another HRP Mama meet-up and it was fun, but with the more wintery weather approaching we've decided to move these to indoor playrooms at various Mama's apartment complexes. So that's what we'll be doing this coming Friday.
Boo to winter :(
And I just joined another Mom's group... this one called Bowery Babes and much closer to home. I love HRP Mama's but it is hard to trek Moira across town, and now especially that it's getting colder. Plus Bowery Babes is free, though it does require an interview to get in and they do a little more with working mamas. I interviewed yesterday and found out I got in that night. Already there's a coffee and walk meet-up scheduled for tomorrow that's right down the street from us and another Mommy Baby yoga class that's only $10 on Friday, so I'm going to try to get us out for both those.
Check out that head control! Tummy time was a big part of baby yoga
We have another favorite activity: co-viewing the Food Network!
Moira especially loves The Pioneer Woman!
Upcoming:

  • Today was my Mommy Baby core class. While it was a great work out I'm not sure it's for me. More on that in week 8 though.
  • Bowery Babes meet up tomorrow!
  • Mommy Baby yoga on Wednesday at Karma Kids and on Friday at Yoga High, after that is the HRP Mama's meet-up at a cool Mama who we met last week, Grace's apartment complex in Tribeca.
  • Halloween's coming up! We need to get our pumpkin soon!!! Maybe this weekend.
Having a cheap laugh at my child's expense
