The BBQ Trail and Texas Mango Part II

After a slight mishap where no one bothered to check the Franklin's website until 5 am Monday morning (and guess what, they're closed on Mondays! Our last full day in Texas!) Bill, my Dad and I wound up doing the BBQ trail. These are the original spots, where mainly Czech settlers established Texas BBQ as we know it now. These are not the major cities, but small rural towns like Luling and Lockhart. It was a blast, we had some clear favorites, discovered some things we know are done better in NYC (pork ribs at Morgan's. Where the pitmaster is a Franklin's alum. Get there ASAP if you're in the area!) and Bill got a tour of rural Texas right out of Friday Night Lights (minus the football).
At Blacks, our all-around favorite though the pork ribs were a little tough

Yup, we're in Texas...
City Market, home of the best sausage (the only thing we sampled) and amazing $1.50 BBQ sauce!!! We definitely took home a few bottles of that stuff.
Beautiful architecture
Someone's excited!
Trying out Kreutz' BBQwith the family with 7 KIDS right behind us (again, yup, we're in Texas)

It was basically walking into a room of smoke

Bill and I also had an awesome date night where we hung out downtown on the riverwalk, did some day drinking, had an amazing dinner overlooking the river and spent our first official night away from the Mango. The next day we went to Freebirds (a Texas burrito place and must stop for all Texas visits).

Drinking a Lone Star in front of the Alamo.

And finally, just some more cute Moira pictures.
